random ‘stache: staff year-end list :: Kelly Krueger

2011 was an awesome year for music! Stay tuned throughout the week as we continue our ‘stache Staff Picks for the year and introduce you to our unique team! We asked our staff which ‘stache albums have them in a tizzy this year,  we found out so much more that we just had to go public.

Meet Kelly, our resident diva ‘stache

What are your top ‘stache albums of 2011?

1. Jason Aldean // My Kinda Party
2. Childish Gambino // Camp
3. Sarah Darling // Angels & Devils
4. Saul Williams // Volcanic Sunlight
5. Saigon // The Greatest Story Never Told

Where are you from?  ::Tampa, FL

Current hood?  ::The Boken [That’s Hoboken, NJ y’all]

Your favorite record store?  ::My all-time favorite record store was and will always be the Virgin Megastore. They carried the largest selection, imports, and you could preview the album before you buy it (revolutionary).  I was ecstatic to work at the Virgin in Miami when I was in grad school at UM. I learned about so many types of music, and loved being on the floor helping customers and recommending artists. I’m still devastated about the Virgin stores closing. No Virgin in Time Square? Talk about the end of an era.

The first record you bought?  ::The first tapes I remember playing over and over were Paula Abdul Spellbound, Michael Jackson Bad, Wilson Phillips Self-Titled (and The Bangles). The first album I bought with my very own hard-earned money from Papa Johns was Outkast Atliens.

Your favorite radio station?  ::Hot 97 w/ Funk Master Flex and Kiss FM Sunday nights with Andre Harrell

Your first concert? ::First concert I remember going to was at the Ohio state fair. I had a choice, my mom asked if I wanted to go see The Bangles or NKOTB. Of course I chose The Bangles! I was obsessed with them, and Everything is classic.

One thing you cannot do without? ::I cannot do without cheese. Seriously, I’ve tried to cut it out of my diet, but I can’t torture myself like that.

Deserted island record? ::Donell Jones, Where I Wanna Be. Everytime I travel, or want to relax I listen to this album. It’s my comfort zone, it never gets old, and I never get sick of it.

Spotify or Rdio? Choice device? ::Spotify & iPhone.

Bonus Item? ::I’m a crazy die-hard Ohio State Buckeye fan, and  I absolutely LOVE cooking.

The Virgin stores all closed down?!? I haven’t lived in an area that’s had one in a long time, but you’re right, Times Square isn’t the same without it. I grew up going to Kemp Mill Records in Columbia, MD. I totally would’ve chosen NKOTB over The Bangles at the Ohio State Fair. Like how hard of a choice is that? LOL! I love the interview, Kelly, and so glad that you’ve brought fantastic music to my readers and I.
