New White Rabbits video for Heavy Metal premieres on NPR’s First Watch

Brooklyn-based, Missouri-bred White Rabbits have unveiled ‘Heavy Metal,’ the opening track of the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2009′s critically acclaimed It’s Frightening (hailed by Jon Pareles of The New York Times as “an American sound that fortifies its brains with muscle”). Over three albums, including the new Milk FamousWhite Rabbits have been a band whose straightforward rock hides a lot underneath the surface and ‘Heavy Metal,’ is no exception. Head over to NPR’s First Watch for an interview and to watch the video premiere of ‘Heavy Metal’ here .

Additionally, the band have announced their tour dates this year joined by The War On Drugs and Tennis on select dates. See dates and ticket info here.

Trampled By Turtles announce tour and new album details

Trampled By Turtles
will release their new album Stars and Satellites on April 10  via Thirty Tigers/RED.

Completely in their element, the guys recorded the album in a log cabin called “Soleil Pines” in their hometown of Duluth, MN.

“We wanted to make a record that breathes,” explains singer Dave Simonett. “Musically we wanted to step out of our comfort zone…This record is all about going inward.”

By the sound of it, the guys have evolved their progressive bluegrass wizardry fueled from the momentum of their highly praised 2010 album Palomino.

TBT have also announced their tour this Spring starting in March.  My advice: get tickets early – they sell out venues like nobody’s business and this is a show you DO NOT want to miss. See tour info here.

Check out the album trailer below to the tune of their first single “Alone”

You can read more and stream the first single over at Paste Magazine.

buzz ‘stache: EQUAL VISION and KIRTLAND RECORDS Rejoin RED Distribution

January 24, 2012 Leave a comment

New York, NY – January 19, 2012 – RED Distribution (a division of Sony Music Entertainment) has announced that Equal Vision Records and Kirtland Records have each signed a distribution deal to include both physical and digital rights.

Congrats to our sister company on this big news! Both labels have been distributed by RED previously.  By acquiring these labels once again it only bolsters the already diverse independent label roster.

Steve Reddy, President of Equal Vision, says “Equal Vision Records is proud and excited to be back in business with RED. We had a great deal of success at RED in the past, with bands such as Coheed and Cambria, Armor For Sleep, Chiodos, Circa Survive and many others. It definitely feels like more of a homecoming than a switch to a new distributor. RED has managed not only to survive in this difficult and always changing music environment, but has increased their services and improved their cooperative strategies in working with labels. Equal Vision Records has some hefty goals for its bands in 2012, and with RED’s knowledge and resources, we feel confident we will reach these goals.”

Adds John Kirtland, “Kirtland Records is very excited to be rejoining RED. RED’s track record is unparalleled in working with both established artists and breaking new ones.  In such changing times we need a partner who is as dedicated and progressive as we are — we found this with RED.”

“During their stay with other distributors, RED has evolved into a services and marketing company offering digital and physical distribution,” says Bob Morelli, President of RED. “RED’s structure and approach make it unique to the industry and unlike any other distribution company. I’m thrilled to be working with both Equal Vision Records and Kirtland Records again.”

In 2011, RED played an integral role with breakout artists including Jason Aldean, Mumford & Sons, AWOLNATION, Aaron Lewis and Thompson Square. Albums distributed by RED received 33 GRAMMY nominations from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) for the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony coming up on Sunday, February 12, 2012.

About RED Distribution

RED, the award-winning division of Sony Music Entertainment, headquartered in New York City, is widely recognized as the industry leader in music distribution and artist development.  RED specializes in digital and physical sales, marketing, D2C, radio promotion and product development for more than 60 independent record labels, as well as select artists from Sony owned labels. RED’s marketing outreach is unsurpassed in generating consumer awareness for artists, labels and brand partners.  In 2009, RED launched ‘stache media, an in-house marketing and brand partnership agency. ‘stache media’s expert staff provides marketing services in online marketing/publicity, college lifestyle marketing, advertising & consumer research, social media & fan engagement, creative services and brand/partnership marketing. Sony Music Entertainment’s acquisition of IODA, the premiere independent digital distributor, has expanded RED’s reach into international as well as domestic markets.

About Equal Vision Records

Equal Vision Records is an independent label based in Albany, NY founded in 1991 by Shelter vocalist, Ray Cappo. When his intense recording and touring schedule made it impossible to keep up with the growing label, his long-time friend, Steve Reddy, purchased the label in 1993. He has since run the label with his wife and a team of hardworking, passionate individuals. Equal Vision Records is currently home to a diverse roster of artists including Say Anything, We Came As Romans, Chiodos, and Eisley, and is the former home and career launching pad for bands such as Coheed & Cambria, Saves The Day, Circa Survive, and Portugal. The Man.

About Kirtland Records

Kirtland Records is an artist-friendly independent record label formed by Deep Blue Something drummer John Kirtland in 2004. Based in Dallas, Texas with a satellite office in Los Angeles, Kirtland Records is manned by a team of hardworking, passionate individuals driven by both a love of music and respect for artists. Kirtland’s current roster includes Toadies, Bob Schneider, Sarah Jaffe, and Smile Smile. Kirtland also owns a large catalog including, most notably, the first four records from BUSH, along with releases from The Flys, Deep Blue Something, Ranking Roger, Andrew Tosh, & Phunk Junkeez and many movie soundtracks.

Rodrigo y Gabriela’s new album Area 52 available Jan. 24 via ATO Records

Rod and Gab are back but this time with a full Cuban Orchestra named C.U.B.A. The Mexican acoustic duo said “The album is called Area 52 because we felt like Mulder and Scully approaching this—it was just a crazy idea, to see if a big Cuban band could play our music, a step in the dark. We knew it was out there, everyone has heard of Area 51, but we wanted to take it a little further.” (via Paste).  Here’s a preview of the album here:

This spring, Rodrigo y Gabriela will be bringing the band C.U.B.A. on the road in order to showcase the dynamic hybrid of metal, Latin and jazz featured on the album in a live setting. It will mark the first time in their careers the duo has toured and performed with a backing band.

Check out their tour announcement here:

Additionally, Rodrigo y Gabriela will perform on the upcoming 38th season of PBS’ Austin City Limits.

Emmure to release their fifth full-length album, Slave To The Game, after re-signing with Victory Records

The album is slated for an April 10, 2012 release. The group is currently recording with producer Joey Sturgis, who previously worked with the band on 2011’s Speaker of the Dead. On the personal front, the band have added drummer Mark Castillo (ex-Between The Buried And Me and Bury Your Dead).

Vocalist Frankie Palmeri expresses his enthusiasm on solidifying Emmure’s relationship with their label saying, “Victory Records is the big reason why Emmure’s been able to continuously connect to our fans, and our fans are the number one reason why we’re still here today and continue to do what we do.”  Watch Frankie’s full statement here and below.

Emmure will support Slave To The Game with a full North American tour this spring, hitting 31 cities with We Came As Romans and more beginning in March.
