Be the first to try out Onkyo’s new line of headphones at The Brooklyn Vegan Day Parties March 13-16th and Equal Vision Records Showcase March 15th.
Onkyo, the world’s foremost manufacturer of home theater and hi-fi components, is pleased to announce the Onkyo Headphones – the brand’s first time offering their authentic hi-fi experience on the go.
Onkyo will be introducing its new line of on-ear headphones – the ES-HF300 and the ES-FC300 – at this year’s SXSW Music Festival.
Music fans will be able to demo the Onkyo headphones before they hit the shelves at several events: The Brooklyn Vegan Day Parties, March 13-16th at The Main and The Jr., and the Equal Vision Records Showcase on Friday, March 15th at the House of Blues (Annex). Both events are free and open to the public.

live ‘stache: Sony City at SXSW to Feature Third Eye Blind, The Lone Bellow, Dawes, Joey Bada$$ and more!
Brought to you by Sony Electronics and ‘stache media, Sony City at SXSW will take over Austin with four days of music showcases and interactive experiences across two venues.
Sony Electronics is creating an interactive music and electronics experience at this year’s SXSW. “Sony City” will take place at two official festival venues — Six Lounge and HANGAR Lounge – and give attendees a unique opportunity to see and try out the newest Sony digital imaging and personal audio products. Sony City opens Wednesday March 13th and runs through Saturday, March 16th.

live ‘stache: MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY Plays Congas with THE CULT at SXSW

Matthew McConaughey and Gerard Butler were just two of the celebrities who came to check out The Cult at this year’s SXSW. Butler was in the audience and hanging out backstage with Cult guitarist Billy Duffy at Friday night’s Chevy Sound Garage performance. On Saturday, The Cult headlined the 25,000-capacity Auditorium Shores Stage Concert Series and brought actor Matthew McConaughey onstage who jammed on congas for a couple of songs.

The Cult debuted a handful of new songs – “Honey From a Knife,” “The Wolf,” “Lucifer” and “For The Animals” – from their upcoming album Choice of Weapon, due out May 22 on Cooking Vinyl, as well as peppering the set with some of their biggest hits – “She Sells Sanctuary,” “Fire Woman” and “Wild Flower.”
Choice of Weapon is The Cult’s first new album in five years. It was written by founding members Astbury and Duffy, produced by Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality) and Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush and The Cult’s Platinum-certified Sonic Temple), and recorded in New York, Los Angeles, the California high desert and the band’s Witch Mountain studio with long-time members John Tempesta on drums and bassist Chris Wyse. The Cult has announced tour plans for Europe this summer and the UK in September; North American dates will be announced shortly.

The French Bureau Export returns to Austin for the third year, celebrating France’s well known and up-and-coming artists at SXSW 2012. The French Bureau Export will be kicking off the first music day of SXSW this year with two parties on Wednesday March 14th. The Bureau Export /Angers Loire-Valley Party will usher in the day’s events 12-6pm at Brush Square and The Bureau Export & Agency Group Party will keep the entertainment going throughout the night 8pm-2am at The Mohawk. The French Bureau Export has also partnered with La Blogotheque, the French music and video site that has pioneered the “Takeaway Shows” technique. La Blogtheque will be on-site filming both French Bureau Export parties.
In addition to the two official showcases, The French Bureauexport lends its support to many other French artists performing at this year’s SXSW. A full list of French artists at SXSW 2012 is here, and check out the France Rocks Austin 2012 sampler below.

Seven years ago, Ara Starck met David Jarre in Paris. She was a painter, he was a magician. Their meeting produced magic of another kind, crystallized today in The Two, a duo that weaves together its members’ atypical career paths, and melds their singularities in a shared intimacy. The Two’s music feels like an invitation to dream in their own secret garden. On their debut album, Ara and David are seemingly rediscovering the magic of uncluttered melody, primary sound colors and simple words, all underlined with strength and elegance by their vocal harmony. As though improvised, The Two’s music speaks with a rare natural voice.

video ‘stache: HOWLIN’ RAIN Really Howls
Relix Magazine features gritty psychadelic rock outfit Howlin’ Rain.
Their new Rick Rubin produced album The Russian Wilds really howls! The album was released on Valentine’s Day this year and the band will be touring the US through April including a stop at SXSW and Sasquatch! Festival.
The San Francisco Bay Area-based power quintet is currently featured in Relix Magazine. To showcase their obvious psych-rock influences, the band has created a ‘Midnight In The Van’ playlist with songs from ZZ Top, Stevie Wonder and Little Feat. Listen to the personally curated playlist over at MOG to see what it’s like at midnight in the van with frontman Ethan Miller.

The Russian Wilds TV ‘stache: ALABAMA SHAKES Making Noise
Alabama Shakes made their national television debut last night on Conan.
Viewers witnessed a stellar Alabama Shakes performance on Conan last night as the band performed ‘Hold On’, the first single from their highly anticipated debut album, Boys & Girls, which is due out April 10 in North America from ATO Records and April 9 internationally via Rough Trade. Alabama Shakes are absolutely a must-see live act, they rocked our ‘staches clear off at a recent NYC show. The band just completed its first-ever West Coast run, playing 11 sold-out shows, and will make its London debut later this month with three sold-out nights at Boston Arms. They will perform at SXSW this spring and don’t worry, additional North American dates will be announced soon!
Alabama Shakes were named ‘Best New Band of the Year’ by Paste Magazine and hailed as a “genuine, word-of-mouth, go-see-them-then-tell-10-friends-how-amazing-they-are thing” by NME.
“New fans are converted at every gig,” observed Rolling Stone in a recent Breaking Artist feature. “The fast-rising soul-indebted rock band is turning ears for its incendiary live sets,” said the Los Angeles Times while BuzzBands.la praised Alabama Shakes’ “ferocious and unpretentious fusion of Southern rock and blues.” The New York Times’ Jon Pareles described lead singer/guitarist Brittany Howard as a “thunderbolt dressed in blue jeans.” “[She is] diving into the wreck of music history and coming up with treasures we can use,” said The Hollywood Reporter.
Jack White’s Third Man Records will release a two-song 7” from the band’s fall 2011 session at Third Man in Nashville later this month. Alabama Shakes recently appeared on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and NPR’s World Café. You can check them out performing ‘Hold On’ live for MTV Hive’s ‘First Take’ series here.
Alabama Shakes are vocalist/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, drummer Steve Johnson and bassist Zac Cockrell with Ben Tanner assisting on keyboards. The band are based in Athens, Alabama and began playing together when they were in high school. Boys & Girls was produced and mixed by the band and recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, TN.
